Sat down recently with Scott Phegley for the first of at least two interviews. Recent tournament success includes winning the 2015 and 2020 Peoria Men’s City, and last year, placing in the top 5 of the Illinois Mid-Amateur and in the top 4 of the CDGA Mid-Amateur. For several years, Scott has been heavily involved with the River Cup and River Cup Foundation.
We discuss Scott’s participation in junior golf, leading to his recruitment to the University of New Mexico, and his return to Central Illinois to complete his collegiate career playing for Bradley University.
Scott also relates his experiences playing mini-tours and shares his thoughts on the corresponding lifestyle (or lack thereof), along with the intense competition and grind involved in trying to forge a path to the PGA Tour.
Scott provides an overview of his involvement in the local amateur golf scene over the last several years, including the annual AJGA event he helped get started at Pekin Country Club (supported by D.A. Points), as well as the Tazewell County Amateur.
Finally, we discuss Scott’s formation of the Golf Events Guy outing/tournament organization service, helping individuals and organizations put together an outing/tournament from inception to conclusion.
In the next interview, we will be discussing Scott’s Clubhouse Indoor Golf venture, and then all aspects of the River Cup and River Cup Foundation.
