Golf Ball Evolution, Nate Jordan Inteview, Darrel Smock Interview Forthcoming
News . . .
Weather is getting incrementally better — sticking with my prediction — things should settle down by July 4th (!!).
There are a number of tournaments coming up in the next 30-45 days. Am hoping to be able to interview the winners for future podcast episodes. Stay tuned for announcements as we get closer to tournament dates.
Across the area, PGA Junior Leagues are getting started with a new season. My own junior golfer decided to participate again this year, and the first session for the Peoria Park District PGA Junior League, headed by Earl Swanson, met today at the Golf Learning Center. Looking forward to another fun season!

Articles and Updates . . .
Golf Balls — 1400s to the Present was published yesterday. Provides a brief and interesting history of the evolution of the golf ball.
TYB Podcast Episode 2, featuring Nate Jordan, was published Friday night. Nate is the Superintendent for the University of Illinois Atkins Golf Club in Urbana, the new home course for the University of Illinois men’s and women’s golf teams. Nate and his team oversaw the extensive renovation of all aspects of the course, and he has hands-on knowledge of what it takes to get any golf course ready for spring play.
Episode 3 will feature Darrell Smock, Director of Golf for the Weaver Ridge (Peoria), Metamora Fields, and Sunset Hills (Pekin) golf courses. Sat down with Darrell for the interview earlier this morning, and am working through post-production tasks. Expect to publish Episode 3 prior to sending out the Wednesday/Thursday edition of the TYB Bulletin.
If you know of someone in the Tri-County HOI golf community that you believe would be an interesting interview, please email their contact info and a brief description to theyardagebook@substack.com. Please use subject “Interview Suggestion”. I’ve received some really good suggestions and will be following up to get the interviews completed — keep them coming!
