Most golfers in the Tri-County HOI area have heard of the River Cup annual competitions, which pit the best amateur golfers from the Peoria area against the best amateur golfers from the Tazewell/Woodford area.
The River Cup (styled after the Ryder Cup in the pro ranks) began as a “bring your best players and I’ll bring mine” friendly bragging rights competition in 1993. Along the way, it evolved to include a more formal qualification process, well-defined competition matches, etc. In addition, the River Cup Foundation was developed to channel charitable contributions towards the development of golf (and especially youth golf) in the area.
For the River Cup itself, there are specific competition classes, including men, women, seniors, and juniors.
TYB will cover any news and information related to the River Cup and/or the River Cup Foundation, and there are podcast episodes planned that will cover details and events upcoming for both the competition and foundation aspects.
In the meantime, please visit the River Cup / River Cup Foundation site for all kinds of background and current information.
Of note is the 22nd Charity Outing to be held at Peoria Country Club on Monday, May 23rd, 2022. You can access outing, sponsorship opportunity, and registration information at the website, under Golf Outing.
